Compliance of Asthma Regimes
Many adolescents throughout the world suffer from chronic conditions that influence their day-to-day activities. In some instances those afflicted with these conditions such as asthma become complacent with their health care regimens However, research into the reasons with this non-compliancy was lacking. Kyngäs (1999) initiated a study titled Compliance of Adolescents with Asthma. The purpose of this essay is to critique the above study. To undertake this, the areas of focus include; appropriateness of the abstract, appropriateness of the problem statements, clarity and relevance of statement of significance, appropriateness of the research questions, theoretical framework and comparison and relationships of relevant literature reviews. The framework for this research was based on a theoretical model of compliance of adolescents with diabetes in conjunction with a literature review concerning the compliance of adolescents with chronic diseases. The data was collected using a questionnaire. (Kyngäs, 1999, pg 197). Kyngäs was directly involved in the development of both of these studies. Whilst the framework for this study is known, there was no overview provided in regards to the theoretical model on which it is based. The lack of explanation could lead to a misunderstanding by readers with no theoretical background knowledge in regards to the theoretical concept of the study that Kyngäs was intending.
