Short Story - Summertime

The bell rang for the last time at the middle school. It was a shrill sound of freedom, happiness, and SUMMER VACATION!!! Everyone jumped out of their seats and hollered and hooted with glee. Everyone except Harley. All he wanted was a normal summer filled with fun and vacation. A sweet summer, an awesome summer, a fantastic summer! But noooo, his parents just had to force him to study, study, and study. Harley kicked an empty soda can in frustration. Why couldn't they see that he was just a normal teenager that wanted to have some free time to hang out with friends and play video games? After walking for a few minutes, he arrived at the front door of his family's apartment. He quietly gripped the door knob. Harley decided that if he could slip inside, he would get some free time. The door slowly opened with a rusty creak and he peeked inside. Coast clear he said into the imaginary radio inside his head. Harley silently laughed to himself. Sneaking into his own house like a burglar was just plain sad.
"Harley? Is that you?" Asked a shrill voice. He nearly jumped out of his skin.
"Yeah mom, it's me. I was uh, just gonna go to my room to get something." He replied in a tired voice.
"Well, good thing it's summer. I just signed you up for a Shakespeare camp and a wonderful math class. I also ordered a newly updated social studies book that will definitely pique your interest. Hmmm, I think I'll sign you up for the summer SAT prep class. There's also." His mom babbled on and on.
"That's great mom. I'll be in my room trying to figure out which one I 'like' the best." Harley muttered. He noticed that she didn't use the word vacation.
The next morning, Harley was busy studying his textbooks with his mom hovering by him. She was watching him closely like a hawk eyeing a rabbit. Suddenly, she jumped up and exclaimed, "Oh dear! I almost forgot that I have a cooking class today at 10:00! Make sure you thoroughly read chapter 4 in the social studies book and do problems 1-20 in the algebra book.
