The second amendment about right to bear arms is outdated and needs to change. Just over this Thanksgiving during Black Friday shopping, in Las Vegas, a thief shot a shopper in his leg and stole his television. As shooting incidents rapidly increase in America, people dying from shooting is something that is really common in the US. Every year in the United States 100,000 people are shot and out of those 100,000 people, 31,668 die. When the second amendment was made in 1791, its purpose was to serve individual protection. However, as years passed by this amendment failed to serve its purpose. In the US Constitution, it clearly states that the second amendment was to serve individual protection yet people use firearms to wound each other. .
Two hundred years ago, firearms weren't as deadly as the firearms that we have today. The weapons that we find these days can be varied as pocketknife to machineguns. Present-day weapons are surely more deadly, especially machine guns, which not only shoots a bullet at a very high speed, but can also shoot around 10 bullets per second. Obviously arms weren't as high-tech in the past because back then no guns could shoot 10 bullets per second. In addition, when the second amendment was made right after colonies gained independence from Great Britain, people kept guns in their houses incase British people attacked their houses. For these reasons, the second amendment is outdated and should be changed immediately. .
The second amendment was designed for individual security. The Second amendment in fact adds to insecurity, because, modern day people interpret the amendment differently and attack people with guns not to protect themselves. For their personal security many people bear arms. The estimated rate of private gun ownership (both illicit and licit) held by civilians is 101.05 firearms per 100 people. Because modern day people interpret the second law the opposite way and kills people, the second amendment should be revised.
