Beginnings of the Independant Woman


            In the modern era there has always been an idea of what the "proper"" or "ideal"" roles should be of a man and women. These assumptions include things ranging from physical features to a career of one's self. While these assumptions may appear to only have minor effects on the surface, the rules and objects that have been built around these assumptions are endless. To make matters worse, the rules and objects that are correlated to the "ideal " roles, have been so widely accepted that it may not be noticed in one's conscious attention. However, before entering a further discussion of what is built around these assumptions, it must first be brought to one's knowledge what the roles of an "ideal"" man and women are in today's society as well as have these roles have changed within the past fifty years.
             In the modern society, the "ideal " man and women both have roles that have been deemed to be normal by society due to the fact that they have been around for such a long time. Starting off with the ideal role of a man in modern society, when one think of a modern ideal man an image will appear in most people's mind and it is highly likely that all of the images are similar. This "ideal " man is most likely to hold a successful career with a stable family. This image is because society has implied men as the sole supplier of the family for a long time. Through media and many other social aspects of one's life, men are often seen as the head image of the family that is able to provide comfortable living environments. The success of a man is often measured by the success of his career, the higher the man's salary the more you have achieved. With respects to the physical aspect of a man, it is widely spread that an ideal man should be tall, lean, and muscular. A man should be able to fend for safety for both himself and his family. In short, the ideal man is quite simple, it is mainly based on the financial stability that he is able to provide for his family as well as the safety that he is able to provide for them in physical terms.
