Adolscent Literature

As time passes in the ever more modern world, mankind has shifted focus from nature and its ability to heal. Mankind now has a stronger interest in the marvels that technology has offered. Instead of taking a walk beside the lake near their house, a person now chooses to take a short to trip to the pub down the way and enjoy the wonders of beer on tap. As people find themselves with less time and more stress, they some how seem to forget the one place that is not only peacefully and solitary but is also the main place life is regenerated. William Wordsworth believes nature to have the ability to help those who feel alone. This becomes apparent in his poem “I wonder lonely as a cloud.” In this poem Wordsworth uses rhythm, word choice, and imagery to show that nature has the ability to comfort and relax those who are feeling anxiety or depression. As Wordsworth finds himself at unrest he sets back and reflects back to visions of nature forever traced “upon his inward eye” (21). Nature becomes a band-aid for the pain and woe in Wordsworth’s life and “I wonder lonely as a cloud” serves as a flyer he posts to bring the same light back to others.

Each beautiful word creates a stroke in a great canvas and when combined with the rhythm of the poem the reader finds themselves in a beautiful comfortable place.

this poem, the reader is instantly forced to calm down and relax. The very rhythm of this poem does not allow for it to be read choppy or fast. With each line following Iambic Pentameter, the readers find themselves rocking slowly back as if they where in a hammock sleeping on the deck of a boat sailing out on calm waters. Each line never reaches an accent that is too stressed on an accent that is too low. Line one of this poem reads:

At the end of “I wander lonely as a cloud” Wordsworth has reached a point where he has to just tune out everything around him, “For oft, when on my couch I lie/ In vacant and pensive mood, /” (23-24). He finds himself in a place where he is alone with nothing but his mind. At this time of distress:
