Stalin
Stalin Joseph Stalin ruled the Soviet Union with an iron fist for 24 years. After Lenin’s death, Stalin controlled the communist party in 1927. He believed in socialism in one country. After Stalin came into power, his goal was to make Russia a powerful communist country. To achieve this goal, he felt that Russia needed to rapidly industrialize, since they were 100 years behind advanced countries. As heavy industry was being developed, agriculture was to be collectivized as a part of achieving Stalin’s goal to make Russia a stronger state. Stalin spent much of his rule on industrializing Russia and thought of this as the most important thing that Russia had to change to become a leading Country in the world. He needed this of his Country so he could compete in the wars that he thought were going to take place in the world. In 1928, one of Stalin’s goals was to rapidly develop heavy industry in Russia. Stalin thought that everything else that needed to be done with the country needed to wait till Russia had a stable economy. Stalin now had the Country that he need to produce a great army. His Country had not done well in past wars and in WWI they also did not do much. Stalin wanted to change that and was going to do so. Stalin even had Russia join the Leaugue of Nations so that they could make deals and agreements with other Countries. Russias defence was greatly increased and they were now becoming a war powerhouse. Now Russia was respected in Europe and was not to be messed with. With WWII starting both sides of the war knew that the outcome of the war would be greatly affected by which side Russia would join. On August 23, 1939, Stalin and Hitler signed a non-aggression treaty. This pact was sighned to give Russia time to build up a bigger army because Stalin knew that it w
