The Path to Being Promoted

Asking for a promotion from your boss can be one of the most stressful situations you will come across in your job. Fearing that you will look like you are sounding too desperate to your boss, and making it seem like you aren't focused on doing your best can trigger unnecessary mistakes. However, if you take the right approach, you can change the way you look toward your boss, and not make yourself feel so undervalued. When asking for a promotion, don't ask for too much at once. Many people ask for a promotion, raise, and even better privileges all at one time. This can lead your boss into thinking you are greedy, and will lower your chance of getting a promotion. Instead, while you are awaiting your promotion, casually bring up the things you would like to have along with that promotion while maintaining a strong work ethic. This will increase the chances of you getting that new position. Your boss should indicate weather you are eligible for a promotion weather that's by telling you how much of a good job you are doing, or asking you how you like your position and how you would feel if you had a different position. .
Demonstrate a strong work ethic. Show everyone that you can be trusted. Deliver other's needs from you to them on time and accurately. Ask questions from your boss, and learn your way around tough situations. Show everyone in the office that you are powerful, and be the one everyone can depend on. Master your position, and this will let your boss know you are eligible to take on a higher position. If you can make yourself stand out, and make it look like your job is too easy for you, you may not even have to ask your boss for a promotion, he will just give it to you.
One big mistake employees make is they try to "overshoot his or her target." Every workplace has its own established hierarchy and everyone should manage his or her own place within it. Trying to impress your manager by doing his or her responsibilities for them can come off as being offensive to them.
