The founding of America originated from the simple idea that all men are created equal and that all men should have equal opportunity to be successful. Since the founding fathers created the Declaration of Independence, the idea that all men have the right to life, liberty, and a pursuit of happiness plays a key role in the dream of wealth and the ideologies of society in the 1920s. The philosophy that anyone can be successful influences the hope for endless riches and success in every American in the early 19th century, a major theme that shapes Jay Gatsby's desire for wealth and to be included in the exclusive high social class. However, Gatsby's drive and passion for money is mostly for Daisy Fay, a girl whom Gatsby fell in love with during his younger years in the army. With Gatsby leaving with the US Army and Daisy choosing her separate ways, Gatsby eventually concludes that he must be included in the higher class along with having endless riches in order to steal back his love so that him and Daisy could pursue happiness together. Unfortunately, Gatsby does not see clearly throughout his life as this dream eventually consumes and corrupts him, blinding him from the sense of reality. Gatsby's life soon becomes his dream as he lives everyday trying to win back Daisy's love. He then begins the participate in the illegal business, making an enormous amount of money. Jay Gatsby's dream of wealth and love derives from his true purpose in his life which was to win Daisy's love in return of his enormous amount of wealth but it ultimately pushes Daisy away from his fanatical corrupt life. .
Throughout the story, Jay Gatsby pursues a wealthy lifestyle in hopes of leading Daisy back to him away from Tom Buchanan. The portrayal of this rich environment is seen throughout the novel as something that is positive and attractive. Gatsby was well known in New York for his extravagant and alluring parties that he threw often, inviting guests from all over the city.
