The Concept of Morality in Frankenstein

Morality is a topic that has been debated throughout all time. Questions are asked about its origin, its definition, and its purpose. In Frankenstein, morality is a topic that is discussed in the characters actions and thoughts. The creature is one character that has morality issues and they can be seen clearly. In the book Frankenstein, the creature is truly immoral. However, this immorality is caused by his creator and the world around him. In order to understand what immorality is, first one must understand what morality is. Merriam-Webster defines moral as "considered right and good by most people : agreeing with a standard of right behavior". Morals can be discussed in both a religious way and in a secular way. From the religious viewpoint, morality is seen as following Jesus Christ's example, to aim to be sinless and pure. From the secular viewpoint, being moral usually just means being good to others. Respect, love, and kindness are important parts of being moral.
Now immorality would be the opposite of morality. This means it would be define as what is considered wrong and bad by most people. In the same way, immorality is discussed in religious and secular ways. The only difference being that in today's world, immorality is so common that people accept it and are used to it. After defining morality and immorality, one can apply that to the story of Frankenstein and in specific, the creature. The creature, at the beginning of his life, really did not understand a whole lot about the world. He didn't know how to speak the language, did not know the lifestyle and thought process of humans. He, of course, would eventually learn these things through a group of people in a village and a family he meets on his journey. Upon learning these things, the creature is changed to be the immoral person he turned out to be.
It all began fairly basic. After being created by Victor Frankenstein, The creature wandered around the land for a long time, surviving off whatever he could find.
