What is Really in an Advertisement
What is really in an Advertisement? We encounter different types of advertisements no matter where we look. Whether it is in a magazine or store window, people realize that some advertisements appeal to them more than others. Advertising is so crucial in our business market because this allows consumers to associate with a company’s product. Not only is the advertisement trying to sell and promote their product, but they may also contain some hidden messages unaware to the naked eye. My primary ad was selected from Maxim magazine which primarily caters to young and middle aged men. This is an advertisement for Camel’s cigarettes, which features a man with some lovely women in an extravagant setting. This ad seems to be about how all consumers can indulge like the upper class in our society, but is really portraying rich males as being the dominant ones in society. There are many visual examples in this advertisement that emphasize my point. This particular advertisement is a drawing that illustrates many details. The casual debonair gentleman in this ad is wearing a perfectly pressed tuxedo. Including a bowtie, this man is showing he has class and a sense of style. Normally men do not wear tuxedos unless at wed
In the background, there is an exotic palm tree. The only place where we usually find palm trees is at the beach. The beach is an unique place where we only get to visit a few times a year on vacation if we are lucky. I have never seen a live palm tree in anyone’s house to my recollection. The fact of this in our setting shows how the rich get to appease with our fantasies on a daily basis. The wealthy are entitled to something that normal beings are not. The entire background of our advertisement is plated with what seems to be gold. Emphasizing richness, this effect shows that prestige and dominance is an everyday thing living in a luxurious life. The last of my observations show a huge blue curtain tied back with gold ropes. I get the sense as if this curtain is revealing something spectacular. As it opens, it introduces a consumer to a very charismatic man. Thus unveiling this great treasure to these three lovely women. This superior male knows these women are waiting for him to emerge because they are dependent on him. than females. This article was taken from GQ, which stands for Gentlemen’s Quarterly. Both of my advertisements are from magazines that primarily young adults subscribe to. This is portraying the image of dominance to the future of our society. Making men want to pursue their dreams and achieve this impressive status. placement. No man would conduct this type of behavior unless he felt comfortable and in control. It is obvious that this woman is very comfortable let alone flattered. The poker chips are an important detail because this represents power and wealth. And the only men who hold the true power and authority in our country are that of the wealthy. Even his hair to his physique, portray him as well groomed and fashionable. This shows how society looks at appearance for an overall judgment of that person. Mos
