The Notebook - Movie Summary and Review


            The movie, "The Notebook" starts at a nursing home with an old man, Duke. He is reading to an older woman, who has senile dementia. Duke reads her the story about lovers, who met at a carnival. During the summer holidays, Allie and her family would go down to their summer house. That's when Allie and Noah met for the first time. Allie is a rich, and naive seventeen year old girl, and Noah is a poor nineteen year old guy. They fall in love that summer, and spend memorable times together. Allie's parents, don't approve her relationship with Noah. They don't like the idea of their daughter being with a poor man. So they forbid her from seeing him, and she was forced to leave and go to college. They split up, and Noah wrote Allie a letter every each day for a year, but he never got a reply back. The thing is, Allie's mother hid the letters from her, so she thought that he had forgotten about her. .
             Then Allie moves on too, and gets engaged to a veteran, who's a rich businessman. Meanwhile, Noah still loves her madly. He was thinking of her so often, that he decided to rebuilds the old house Allie wanted him to. After 7 years, Allie sees Noah's picture in the paper. She sees that he's followed his dream of restoring an old house that she liked. All of her feelings come back for him, and she goes to visit him. They reconnect after some fighting and yelling. Her mom finally realizes how much Allie loves Noah, and gives her all the 365 letters that she had been hiding for years. Allie then realizes that Noah never stopped loving her. So she leaves her fiancée to be with Noah. Allie wrote their story into a journal, and after that she and Noah got back together. After many years Allie got dementia, it causes her to forget who she was, and the people she knew. The older man is Noah, and that woman he's reading to is Allie. He reads to her every day from the journal, hoping that she'll remember him and their life together.
