The Reality Behind War

According to the readings and films I've watched about the war, the media has many responsibilities within a democracy. Beginning with the actual way journalists portray the experiences and reality of the war to our society. Meanwhile in Bush's War and Buying the War, the media has also played a big role in manipulating aspects from 9/11 up to the Iraq war. That meaning whether it had to do with the decisions made in the White House or information being exposed to the rest of the world. That all can then tie into the Eleven Reasons by McNamara on the principles in determining when to declare war. .
In the reading Hidden Human Cost, it discusses a story of a Marine and parts of his life serving our country along with a reporter. It is explains that the war can only be revealed to the public with a certain extent. Many people have dealt with vulgar statements for things they've displayed to society and were labeled to be against American soldiers and Marines. For example, when The New York Times exposed a photograph of a brutally wounded soldier lying flat on the ground, the newspaper was then accused with act of disrespect regarding the military. Therefore many reporters and journalists prefer to limit the information they leak to the public in order to keep from being harassed. In result, the war is being projected to society as a way, "to serve our country," though in reality there is much more to war. Recalling the Marine and reporter who went by the names of Nathaniel Fick and Evan Wright; the reading described their story. Evan Wright who was a reporter asked Fick if he could journey with his platoon and Fick allowed him to if he agreed to not use any of his reporting equipment. So for three months, the inexperienced reporter shadowed Nathaniel Fick and his Marines from their way of living overseas to their battle fields. After his experience in the war, Wright returned home and wrote about the actual details and life inside the war.
