Genetic Engineering

My policy on genetic engineering is that to a certain extent genetic engineering is essential to our world today. According to Theodosius Dobzhansky he said, #“If we allow the weak and deformed to live and propagate their kind, we face the prospect of a genetic twilight; but if we let them suffer or die when we can save them, we face the certainty of a moral twilight.” I disagree with Dobzhansky because God creates babies no matter their form or whatever they look like, they’re God’s creation and should be looked at in awe instead of amazement. God creates things for a reason and for His reason to only know why. Through genetic engineering, transgenic organisms are created to improve upon nature, to act as bioreactors that make useful products, or to act as models for understanding basic biology. Baby embryos and their genes are at stake and also their future because if we alter their genes, we may not know what’s in store for them later in life. They may not appear as foreign to this earth, but they do contain at least one altered gene. One may argue that humans have no right to intervene with evolution because of the way it allows the setting aside of species barriers. Thomas Shannon says,

There are many possible alternative solutions that have their consequences. A possible alternative solutions are that if we don’t even try to experiment genetic engineering, we will never know whether or not we are capable of altering a baby’s genes or not and there won’t be a controversy over genetic engineering. If we do try to experiment about genetic engineering, we will be able to tell whether or not we are capable of altering a baby’s genes and whether or not there will be a controversy over genetic engineering. If we do try to experiment with genetic engineering, we are capable of killing innocent baby embryos just because we are trying to alter their genes and could possibly go to jail for that. A person that you could consult on genetic engineering is a scientist. He can tell you how far into genetic engineering scientists are getting to being able to alter a baby’s genes and still live. You could consult someone who the experiment has already been done too if they are alive and willing to tell you because they can tell you how it fells to be a science experiment and how the altering of genes has affected their life. You could also consult a priest so that you can see what his views are about genetic engineering and where he stands on it. You can also ask him to help you pray on helping the scientists coming to their senses and try to do the right thing. You can also consult the company that is funding the project and see why they are funding to experiment on genetic engineering. You can also see what drove them to even go and try to experiment on genetic engineering and you could also try to convince them that it’s wrong and immoral.

Mutations can occur in a number of ways, from crossing-over to environmental factors. My decision is that I believe that genetic engineering is one area of science that should remain untouched because it is immoral and is against all that the Church teaches us. If we don’t go into genetic engineering, we will never know if we are able to alter a baby’s genes to satisfy what we want our babies to grow up to be. If we don’t go into genetic engineering, we won’t know if there is a bad or good affect in the future on the baby. If we don’t go into genetic engineering, someone won’t get the information and use it for evil purposes, even thought genetic engineering is already evil itself.

There are a number of questions that I have in mind that puzzle me all the time about genetic engineering. Why would anyone like to spend that great amount of money just to do genetic engineering and alter a baby’s genes. Why would anyone even want to try and alter a baby’s genes. What would someone do if they succeed in altering a baby’s genes to their approval and wants in a baby. What would happen to the baby in the future if they did succeed in genetic engineering. Are there any advantages or disadvantages if they succeed in genetic engineering. Where the baby would be held if they do try a
