True Friends- Pop Culture

Must-see-TV on Thursday brings many Americans in front of the television for shows such as Friends, Will and Grace, and ER. The shows are created as a means of entertainment to help us relax and get away from our everyday problems, while watching other people fight their way out of comical situations. Why do we sit in front of the screen hoping to relieve stress from watching others in similar situations?

Many times, we watch a show such as Friends, and think that none of the situations the characters go through are close to the ones we experience in the real world. I find this statement to be quite false. Each character on the sitcom Friends has their own unique personality that contributes to the issues that arise on the show. Between Monica and Chandler’s relationship, Rachel’s single-motherhood, and Ross’s continuing divorce rate, many people can relate to some aspect of the characters’ lives. Although Friends is a television show created for entertainment value, it takes real-life issues and portrays them through the eyes of different characters.

Each episode of Friends brings about a new issue for one of the characters to overcome. For instance, the new season begins with Rachel on her new journey down motherh
