It's really hard to find a job you love. People work jobs they hate because it makes good money, even if it's boring and they absolutely hate it. Many people go through job after job until their satisfied with their working environment. There will always be that one coworker they don't get along with or that boss that they hate so much. It's hard being able to find a job that you'll absolutely love and never get bored of. I thought I wouldn't be able to find a job I love. I was always interested in working at a restaurant or an environment that will keep me on my feet and busy. It took me awhile to find one, but the job opportunity came to me for a Vietnamese Karaoke Bar (Café 1221) opening up on Dorchester Ave, Dorchester, Ma. .
I was first offered this job towards the end of March, beginning of April. The bosses wanted me to be a bartender during day shifts and waitress during night shifts and I accepted. This was an amazing job opportunity; I got the chance to work around Vietnamese people, which taught me more about my culture. I was afraid at first that I couldn't communicate or understand my customers because I wasn't fluent in Vietnamese. I was slowly losing my language, but this job gave me the chance to relearn it and put it to good use. From working at this café, I learned to read and write in Vietnamese. I learned new words and was able to keep a conversation with customers, since most of my customers were Vietnamese. This job helped me appreciate my culture more and made me very proud of my nationality. .
The other best part of this job was being able to connect with my coworkers. My head bartender was like an older sister to me, and I appreciated her help when I needed to learn how to make a smoothie or coffee. My other waitresses were friends and family. My coworkers knew I wasn't fluent in Vietnamese and they would never feel troubled when I asked them to translate for me.
