A View of Christianity


            The Pilgrim's Progress written by John Bunyan is an allegory of Christianity, indicating the spiritual journey toward the goal of salvation. In the text, Christian as a protagonist of the allegory encounters obstructs from his family, friends and strangers who try to dissuade him on a mission to God. Some believe that Christian completes his journey with friendship and faith; however, he only concentrates on his own salvation and his determination, walking away from people who've shaken his faith. Therefore, in John Bunyan's The Pilgrim's Progress, instead of putting effort on spreading the gospel, Christian is considered selfish by ignoring the people that are away from salvation and only seeing them as a warning on his journey toward the Celestial City. .
             In a view of Christianity, people are not only recipients of gospel but also missionaries that preach the gospel through God's faith and spirit. Nevertheless, Christian does not count as a missionary but a selfish man who only sees his own goal and happiness. Preaching the gospel is an essential part of Christianity. Through sending the true message of salvation, people are able to receive the eternal life in heaven. God's salvation applies to all nations just as it is said in the Bible, "Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you." (Matthew 28:19-20) On the other hand, Christian receives and believes the truth from "the book in his hand", the Bible, but he fails to "obey everything I [God] commanded you [Christian]. There are tons of opportunities for Christian to spread the gospel on those he meets. In the text, he misses chances of teaching the truth when he encounters a townsman, Talkative, who could not differentiate between "crying out against and abhorring of the sin"(P.
