Pursuing and Living a Dream

As children we are told to dream big and nothing is out of your limits. "You can do anything you set your heart to" is what we are conditioned to believe. But didn't we all have dreams of what we would be when we were older. Doctors and lawyers, princesses and princes, hunters and vets, teacher and judges. We had, we have so many dreams but why don't we all pursue them? Is it that we are scared of failure? Or was it those very few that brought us back down to this earth with the biggest thump that our wildest dreams were crumbled beneath us. The contradictory messages that we are fed first as very young children, encouraged and urged us to believe in the impossible, but then the messaged delivered to us as we grow older that we need to be realistic. We can't all be what we once wished to be. We were told, 'maybe don't dream so big, remember, this is the real world' and 'no, seriously what do you actually want to be?' They were the broken souls that brought so many of us down with them.
             Para 1.
We are told we can be who, and what ever we want to be, but many of us do not follow our hearts. Life gets in the way and becomes harder and more challenging, so we fall into what ever we see that we can succeed in. So, when people do ask we don't have to say we gave up. The vicious cycle started when I was just a little girl. I would have probably just started my first year of school when mum put me into ballet. I loved the idea of being able to dance like fairy and be on my tippy toes. Yet my personality crushed the dream for me, I was shy, way too shy to get up in front of people and dance. All I wanted was to hide behind the legs of my mother. The only person who wouldn't judge me for my failures. The only one who could protect me for the harsh looks and whispers of others. This is the first step we take as children, as destroying our own dreams in the fear that someone else will do it before us.
