Landing Craft Unit
A Landing Craft Unit is a 135-foot United States Navy Ship. The job of the Landing Craft is to transport troops, and their equipment to the beach from larger Navy ships. The Landing Craft Unit that I work on is stationed outside the United States in Sasebo, Japan. The term that we use in the Navy for being stationed outside the United States, while serving on active duty in the Navy is known as forward deployed. There are ten other people including myself who work on the Landing Craft Unit. All the workers on the Landing Craft Unit are United States active duty Sailors. Several of the young men on the Landing Craft Unit are between 19 and 23 years of age, and had never left home (with the exception of basic training) until now. The question that I have for our organization is as follows: Does being stationed overseas away from home for the first time, affect the job performance of men between the ages of 19 and 23 years of age?PRESENT A TESTABLE HYPOTHESIS DERIVED FROM THIS RESEARCH QUESTION. Being stationed overseas away from home for the first time, affects the job performance of men between the ages of 19 and 23 years of age. WHAT ARE TWO OF THE KEY VARIABLES THAT YOU PROPOSE TO USE?
The sponsor contacts the new sailor, by phone and tells him/her what to expect at the new command. The sponsor then follows this up, by sending a welcome aboard package (a package that has information about the job, schools, housing, and recreation) to the new sailor. When the new sailor has completed his technical training, he is sent to his new command where his sponsor will meet him at the airport. The sponsor has already made arrangements to ensure his check in process will go smoothly. Once he arrives at the command he/she will meet their entire chain of command within seventy-two hours. Dependent variable Both variables are the measurable properties of what this study is focused on. The study is a very limited study only affecting a small group of men. Therefore the variables are rather limited. However, if the sampling size was increased to all men, and women stationed overseas for the first time, more variables could be used. In addition with a larger sampling group we could distinguish more factors to constitute a standard for measuring job performance, an example would be, how many radars should be repaired by one sailor in a given work day. Consequently, it could be further broken down by age, race, religious beliefs, backgrounds, ethnicity etc. The study could use interval measurement to measure the differences between men and women in the different branches of the military. The possibilities are almost unlimited. This would be very interesting because we could learn how our men and women in the armed forces feel about being stationed overseas, and how if affects their job performance. The military could also benefit due to the fact, that one branch of the military maybe doing something that helps their young men, and women cope better than another branch of the military. Therefore, each branch of the military could adopt what they liked from each others program, or a program could be developed that applied to all branches of the military, thus increasing their resources.
