George Washington vs William Jefferson Clinton

GEORGE WASHINGTON

versus

WILLIAM JEFFERSON CLINTON.

It may seem a slightly precarious enterprise to compare the first president of the United States of America, the Father of the country – George Washington, with the 41st president – William Jefferson Clinton. The former was, and still is, the symbol of presidency that Americans are proud of, while the latter diminished the authority and damaged the prestige of the occupying position by numerous scandals concerning his private life. However, it is surprising how these two do bear striking similarities with regards to their leadership in America.

George Washington was brought up by “country gentlemen” - a wealthy family settled in Virginia for four generations. When young George was 11 years old, his father died and he was taken care of by his step-brother, Lawrence. As a result, he obtained very superficial education. Owing to Washington’s big physique and body strength, a military career was foresaw to him. He was a truly brave and ready to sacrifice soldier. In 1759 he left the army to settle down in Mount Vernon, Virginia. He was a farmer there for 16 years, rather i

His foreign policy was characteristic of neutrality. He did not support any party in the British-French war due to the American trade being dependent on British and French fleet. In his farewell address of 1796 he included the rules of governing the country as far as domestic and foreign policy are concerned. He persisted in the concept of American isolation in the world political arena, which continued until the W.W. II.

Although so different as far as the personal images are concerned, George Washington and Bill Clinton are definitely considered good presidents. There were some similarities concerning their policies, especially the foreign one supporting the idea of America’s isolation. Moreover, they both had excellent relations with people – not only were they among them, but they served them as much as they could. The result of this is the fact that Americans forgave Clinton the mistakes that he committed during his presidency and focused their attention on his achievements as the president of the United States of America. The future generations will remember him as the one who went through the impeachment procedure, but also as the one who improved the American economy despite his personal scandals.

He consequently aimed at the presidential post and in 1974 had his debut on the political arena. In 1978 he was elected the governor of Arkansas. He was able to present his effective platform as far as the agricultural development was concerned. Thanks to Bill Clinton, Arkansas was not the poorest state any more. Moreover, his huge success was educational and social policy. He was even recognized the most effective governor in the country. These facts bear a striking similarity to the instance of George Washington who proved to have leadership skills in the war with the British.

Despite Washington’s disappearance from the social life, he had a very critical attitude towards the policy of Great Britain with regards to American
