Brian Deneke - Loss of Innocence
Dustin camp willfully murdered one Brian Deneke on the night of December, 12 1997 at 11pm with his car. Camp chased Deneke through the parking lot of the western plaza shopping center in front of the International House of Pancakes in Amarillo, Texas. What do you think he should have got? 25 to life or even 15 to 25? No, his lawyers got the charge down to manslaughter, and the only thing Camp received for this attack was a $10,000 fine that his lawyer got waived and 10 years probation. Camp filed for parole in December 11th 2001 after only serving 3 months of an 8 year sentence. Do you think that is fair? I don’t. But wait there is more; he broke the probation and only got 9 months in jail. Not even one year for killing another human being. Camp was out by June 7th 2002. Does that sound like justice to you? Dustin Camp: Camp was 16 years old when he committed this “wrongful act”. Camp was the co-captain of the foot ball team at Tascosa High School; he was a “prep” or a “jock” and they are “enemies” of the “punks”. The “jocks” have always out numbered the “punks” anywhere, but in the town of Amarillo the “punks” were in the extreme minority. Camp was the drive
Brian Deneke: Brian was one of the kindest people that you would ever meet in Amarillo or anywhere. Unlike the rest of the people in the town just complaining about how boring it is, Brian got up off his butt and put together concerts for local bands and not local bands to come and play for free in Amarillo. If the bands were not free he would pay for it out of his own pocket. He touched so many people in his community. Letting them feel like they belong. He did not deserve to die on that night. Brian had so much going for him. He was a great musician. He died when he was only 19 years of age. Jason Deneke (Brian’s brother) held Brian in his arms as he lay there bleeding. Brian died in his brother’s arms that night and the killer only served 9 months in jail. I can’t help but think if it was the other way around, if Deneke ran over Camp if everything would be the same. I think that it would be completely different case altogether. If it were Deneke on trial for the murder of Camp there would be a lot harsher outcome than probation. Camp had the money and his parents had the respectability of the wealthy people in their community to win this case.
