Nathaniel Hawthorne was born in Salem Masschusetts. His fater was a sea captin and descendent of John Hawthorne one of the judges in the salem witch trials of 1692. His fater dierd when he was four years old. Nathanial grew up alone with his mother, who became overly protective and pushed him toward more isolated pursits.
