Americans Viewpoints on Bush's Actions

Americans Viewpoints on Bush’s Actions

The United States is primarily split in half on agreeing or disagreeing with how George Bush has handled the events prior to the September 11th attacks. According to a Time/CNN poll, 57% of Americans felt that the U.N. Security Council should have the final say on the disarmament of Iraq as opposed to the U.S. President and Congress. But, the majority of Americans have complete trust in Bush that he will make the right decisions to protect the United States.

Over half of Americans support George Bush in his decision to follow through with a war against Iraq. Most Americans are okay with the idea of going after Saddam Hussein, but other people such as Thomas Murphy, a World War II veteran, said, “we need to get that bunch that bombed the World Trade Center first” (Karen Tumulty 42). The sources all have two main points: one, the majority of the Americans were more in support for the war a month or two after the attack, than they are currently. Secondly, having Saddam Hussein removed is worth the after affects of the war. Several are worried that the war will increase the risk of future terrorism against the United States, rather than decrease. Bush has influenced the United States to think that going to war with Iraq will make us safer, but he has yet to prove his theory valid.

Americans have been taught that going to war is an act of seeking justice, not necessarily revenge. More American adults rate the job President Bush has done in handling the issue of Iraq over the last several months as positive than negative. The president’s ap
