Eight Kids
Eight kids, one house for all of us. Its tough to raise a family on your own , I did what I had to do for my family to be ok. Can a parent be wrong for feeling content with his efforts. I fought, struggled , everything an average parent, did but with eight kids. Each of my kids saw my efforts different, each choosing there own path. A family this big was just hard to keep up with. We also had our good times , even through our troubles. Anything they needed I tried to provide, there is nothing I wouldn’t have done for my kids. Their mother wasn’t much help, and I guess I put us in a bad situation at first. From the oldest right down to the youngest I stood alone for. Now it was 1973 I just finished high school, I got into Cal State San Bernadino. The start of my new life was just about to begin. I had two steady girlfriends at the time, Darlene and pam. I was too young to be tied down, and wanted to keep my options open. That all went well until pam got pregnant. Only eighteen and I had a baby on the way, and pamChose not to stay with me. There was no way to make child support, and attend college at the same time. Enrolling in the military was the best plan for me, responsibility was apon me now.
“Tc” grew up almost perfectly, he was in trouble a little but he was a boy. Sports weren’t a problem, “Tc” was so competitive. I was always concerned with “Tc” not having a mother figure around, but it didn’t seem to matter. Throughout highschool he received no lower than a 3.5gpa.”Tc” out shined his peers and became a football star. This was my proudest moment, I could never ask anymore of him, he always did it. Aneshia, Alicia, And Robert folded under pressure, Shalese and Anayla really didnt do much of anything. Just like I once did with Alicia, I sat with “Tc”. He helped me feel accomplished and like everything didn’t go wrong before. Seeing “Tc”success made me think of the others. Only then I realized, “Tc” was never limited.”Tc” was the youngest and the only one to receive a childhood, the rest always had a younger sibling to take care of. “Tc” was the only one who got a chance to find himself. I never had to inform “Tc” because he learned all on his own. All along I blamed my other kids for not following directions, or choosing there own path against my will. The older kids were just finding themselves along the way, “Tc” found this as a kid. How can a parent not see this, even in our circumstances each one of my children found where they fit. Aneshia and her husband live with their two kids happily. Robert became a sports analist( I mistook his interest in sports for him wanting to play). Alicia is now a phycologist, that’s why she always made me feel good when I spoke with her.Shalese and Anayla work telemarketing(getting paid doing nothing) a job that fitted their personalities perfectly. As for “Tc” my baby boy, my visionary, he continues to excel receiving a football scholarship. “Tc” is the glue that holds us together, he helped me mend the other children’
