I know to be effective in school and business I must be able to maintain interpersonal relationships with fellow students, employees, and employers. After deciding to return to school I started to do some research. I was amazed that the articles I read about businesses consistently put good communication skills at the top of the list of skills that employers want to see. Communication skills, both written and oral, are also vital to make a good impression. I will be expected to give presentations at conferences and give demonstrations so I must be able to express my thoughts effectively. If I can write and speak well I will earn recognition and distinguish myself as a competent employee or employer. This will be especially true when giving presentations in front of important clients or visitors at major conferences. If I can not learn to communicate effectively then my career options will be limited. In the business world people who can communicate well can work in teams, learn what businesses and customers need, present their results, raise funds, and get promoted to leadership roles in projects or management. If I am incapable of communicating, then my results will be limited to what I can accomplish on my own.
