General Macarthur

At a young age, macarthur being so entrhalled by his fathers war stories, attended West point in hopes of following in his fathers footsteps. He kept a close tie wtih his mother because she was greatly needed by him for her moral support.

He received special treatment at West point because his father was such a high ranking official, however, that did not stop him from being an over achiever. Even at this young age, macarthur did not live by the rules. He got into trouble by GHQ because he refused to listen to rules, including but not limited to refusal to wear a helmet, did not carry a mask, went unarmed, and was usually in the trenches seldomly being in his headquarters.

Following the war, macarthur returned to west point serving as a superintendant to give cadets more opportunity. He felt that they were too isolated from the rest of the nation. He wanted to give the cadets more opportunity to see the rest of the service and outside world. He also, at the same time, improved the curriculum placing more emphasis on humanities and social studies, as well as science.

Again, showing his defiance against the higher ups. He always had a way of going with his own believes and against the beliefs of others. Howeve

Macarthur failed in the philippines. Six hourse before the attack on clark field destroyed his entire bomber force squadrons on the ground, the war department had informed him of the pearl harbor attack and said that the nation was at war. His chief airman bereton asked to attack formose but macarthur refused. However, he denied this request and claime that clark field was brereton's fault. However in his memoirs, macarthurs said that an attack against formosa would have been disastrous, since he had no fighert planes to protect the bombers, which went against his earlier assertions that he never heard of Breretons request.

Inchon is unique in military history because it was the only battle that the commander deliberatly rejected the results of careful scientific staff planning and decided to follow his intution. It worked magnificiently. Macarthur had won a victory unmatched in miliary history.
