Herbert Hoover

Herbert Hoover was the 31st President of the United States. He was born in West

Branch, Iowa on August 10,1874. He was the 2nd of three children. His father was a

village blacksmith whok died of typhoid fever when Hoover was six years old. Less than

three years later, in 1894, his mother died of pneumonia. Because both of his parents

are dead he is forced to live with his uncle in Newburg, Oregon. His uncle was a

country doctor intrested in education. While Hoover was in Oregon with his uncle he

attended Quacker Academy. Then at seventeen, Hoover entered Stanford University

where he graduated from in 1895 with a degree in engineering.

After graduation, Hoover had manyodd job's in gold minews. In 1897, at the age of

23, he worked for a British Mining Firm as chief of it's gold mining operations in West

Australia. A year later he was offered a job by the Chinese Government. He accepted

the job and was chief engineer of the Chinese Engineer and Mining Company. But

before he left for China he returned to California, where hw once minied, and married
