Movie critics tend to be a little too harsh on movies these days. Look around at our society. This is the way a lot of were brought up. These critics are still going off of the earlier days where movies were frowned upon because they used any type of crude or sexual humor. It is hard to even watch a television show without that any more. At least you could tell your kids not to rent this movie but it is really hard to steer them away from cable television. This movie may be a little far fetched as to the way college life is about. Or is it?

Critics agree that Van Wilder does tend to lack a bit of its own originality. Basically what the critics are saying is that this movie is just a branch off of the hit movie Animal House. A lot of the characters in the movie can pretty much be considered just like a lot of other movies. Van Wilder is the stories main character and he has been in Coolidge College for seven years now. Gwen Pearson is a staff writer for the school newspaper and she gets assigned to figure out the way Van works. Taj is a foreign exchange student from India and has been chosen to be Van’s assistant in helping him through the year. Such as attending his classes and taking notes for him. These three characters could be considered your prime people throughout the movie.
