Physic Satellites
For a satellite to be placed in orbit it must first gain entry into space, this can only be achieved through the use of space shuttles or rockets, either riding on a rocket of in the cargo bay of a space shuttle. For this explanation I will just generalize and use the term rocket to show how a satellite is launched. For the rocket to enter space it must first escape the earths velocity, which is the gravitational field of the planet earth, (this being the force of attraction form the earth to a mass.) For the rocket to overcome this opposing force it must reach speeds of over 11.2km/sec this is achieved through a chemical reaction occurring between two fuels such as liquid oxygen and liquid hydrogen occurs inside the rockets engines, which then combusts causing the gases to be ejected from the rear of the rocket propelling the rocket vertically up wards. This reaction occurs in accordance with Newton’s 3rrd Law this as for every reaction there is an equal but opposite reaction, hence mass x velocity = mass x velocity of exhaust gases therefore it corresponding with the law of conservation of momentum. Newton’s second law F=mg can also be applied to the law of conservation and momentum, As the force/thrust being constant
However friction with the atmosphere causes very high temperature and such satellites would vaporize during re entry into the denser regions of the atmosphere. Satellites following other orbits can also suffer similar fates if they were to experience such friction or another force although this is unlikely as they are positioned so far away from the earth. They are also be used for Australia’s weather and military purposes, as well as ‘Parking orbits’ these being used for other satellites such as the Hubble telescope and other deep space probes before they are shot into transfer orbits. Low earth satellites generally follow are polar orbit, thus following a east to west path, however such satellites are designed so that they cross the equator at a slightly different longitude each time, therefore passing every point of the earth.
