Working year after year in the food service industry changes you. It doesn’t take long to feel like you can relate to the employees at every restaurant, every cafeteria, and every catered event you go to. After a while you get used to thinking about the job when you’re in places like that. Being there doesn’t make you think about your job directly; instead it makes you ponder the job the other guy has. You wonder what he thinks about when he serves you. Sometimes you think about how he washes dishes, how he mops floors, or how he copes with the big rush. If he drops that burger and no one sees, would he pick it back up? Most people would think that he might, but try not to think about it. You know he would pick it up, and somewhere in your subconscious you try to think about it.
