Many people wonder if people with Alzheimer’s have more problems verbally or just more problems accessing their memory. Alzheimer’s is a disease of the central nervous system characterized a lot by premature mental deterioration. Over half of the elderly have this disease and are under some sort of medical care by physicians and/or relatives.
There have been many studies over the years about the different information about Alzheimer’s. Martin and Fedio did a study in 1983 that proved that Alzheimer’s patients had no problem categorizing objects and pictures. Two other studies were done a few years later that came out with the basic same results. Although, the AD patients ability to figure out the function of objects, in both studies showed that they were not up to normal standards. In contrast, other researches have
This research proved that if Alzheimer’s patients could perform better if asked a question in a way that is easy for them to think about. If the questions are more direct and are shown to them, they will easier understand the object that is being talked about. Therefore, the patients will be able to skip a step of the thinking process and move on to answering the question. Figuring out a way to help retrieve stored information better and faster would be a great help to everyone who has Alzheimer’s disease.
discovered no clues of such problems. The differences in the results may be because of the unfamiliarity with the things being tested on or because of how the objects were presented. It’s still not understood if the functional knowledge problems were because of lost information or because there was not any understanding of the questions.
