DISCUSS IN CONTRAST THE VARIOUS POLICE PATROL FUNCTIONS, AND DESCRIBE WHICH IS THE BEST METHOD OF PATROLS IN YOUR HOMETOWN: It’s been my experience, just as in the civilian community of Law Enforcement, the Patrols Division is considered to be the backbone of any Military Security Department or Civilian Police Department. Police Officer’s not only have a responsibility to respond to call’s for service, but they have a responsibility as good role model’s throughout the entire community. I also believe it is better to be more pro-active in Law Enforcement than it is to be Reactive in Law Enforcement. To do so you must have some form of technique in your patrolling. There are many methods of patrolling, but all of these methods are categorized into several different types. The first type of patrol is Preventive Patrol. Preventive Patrolling is being more of a deterrent, and preventing crime just by your presence. In preventive patrolling there is really no certain area assigned for you to patrol, so long as you are in your jurisdiction, and you are always on the alert. The second type of patrolling is Directed Patrol. This is something as a Patrolman you will
The fourth type of patrolling is Aggressive Patrol. Aggressive Patrol is something myself as a Watch Commander uses for those active weekend evenings. While conducting Aggressive Patrol, you should be conducting traffic stops more often, conducting field interviews of individuals more often, and possibly conducting Random Sobriety Check-points or Random Vehicle Inspections. In the United States we have what is known as a dual court system. A separate system for each of the states, and an entirely separate system for federal. These separate systems both connect in the U.S. Supreme Court. The federal court system is composed of the U.S. district courts, U.S. circuit courts of appeals, and the U.S. Supreme Court. The state court system consist of trial courts of limited jurisdiction, trial courts of general jurisdiction, intermediate appellate courts, and state courts of last resort.
