Andre Benjamin (Dre) and Antwan Patton (Big Boi) attended the same high school in the Atlanta area of East Point and several battles made each gain respect for the others skills. Also in high school when everyone was wearing Starter pants, they were wearing flower print shorts. Though other Atlanta rappers had garnered success before them, notably Kriss Kross, Outkast was the first to have a hit with shout outs to their cities, calling out neighborhoods like East Point and College Park. Outkast, one member of which is a self-described player and the other a poet, is an irregularity in

popular music. Their blend of gritty Southern soul, and the rolling G- funk helped the Dirty South rise with force to the top of the coasts rapping. Dre and Big Boi’s spectacular success as artists not only lies in their ability to pioneer new sounds with each recording, but in accepting their different personalities and building on their common interests.

In my heart Outkast is one of the greatest rap groups to come out of the ATL. Why do you say? I just gave you, if you listened, many facts and reasons that they are and why I feel they are. There style is different from what many people are used to. Also, if a group has been together for many years, and is getting help from many southern artists, they are going to be great.
