Catcher in the Rye

The Catcher in the Rye, is an interesting novel to read. I can relate to Holden and the difficulties he is going through in his life. The reason I say this is because I went though many similar situations though out my teen-age life. This novel is more up to date than most other written novels in that time period. Because, today's population has grown; therefore, more novels to which teenagers / adults can relate to. He has troubles at home with his parents, and he also has difficulties in school. These are problems that a teen-age boy might face in the world today. This novel is highly interesting; I keep reading on to see what choices Holden will make in his journey throughout his life. .
My first quote I took from this novel is an extremely important one, it tells about the main character, which is Holden. Holden refuses to discuss his early life, he says, because he is bored by "all that David Copperfield kind of crap." (Salinger, pg. 1) Holden doesn't want to talk about his past with anyone because he has hate towards his past. He also does not want to follow other author's footsteps in the way they begin their stories. "His parents also would have two hemorrhages apiece, if he told anyone about his family. He explains, "His parents were very nice and all but very touchy." Holden did not want to have to tell everyone his autobiography. .
His brother Allie died of leukemia a few years back and it has always been a hard subject for Holden to discuss. It brought back bad memories and wouldn't help him out. Holden wants to let go of things in his past, and people will not let him forget. Not only does he have to deal with his past but he has also been expelled from school multiple times. Holden is an extremely intelligent boy, even though it might not seem so. Holden knows what is right and wrong, and he can make decisions for himself. I agree with Holden that his past is his past, and he does not have to talk about it to anybody if he chooses to.
