In order to keep the Ark from falling into the wrong hands and acquiring the Staff of Ra, Jones had to find his old friend Abner Ravenwood. The Nazi's and Belloq tied Indy and Marion to a wooden post. They finally gave into the temptation and decided they should open the Ark of the Covenant. Belloq and the Nazi's are angered when they discover the box contains nothing but sand. This is where Divine Intervention occurs. As Belloq runs his fingers through the sand, a hole in the heavens appears before them. Many spirits came out of the box and killed all that peer into their eyes. Because of Indy's knowledge, he told Marion to close her eyes, and not open them for any reason. As the spirits killed the hundreds of Nazi's before them, Marion and Indy keep their eyes shut. After all were dead, it stopped; the heaven closed up, and the spirits enter back into the box and it seals shut.

Indiana and Marion manage to sneak all the way down to the Nazi airbase. Marion decided it would be smart to sneak into a plane and got stuck inside. While Indiana tried to get her out they are discovered. A battle occurs between Jones and a very buff Nazi. The outlook didn't look like it's was in Indy's favor, until Marion helps again by turning on the plane and chopping the Nazi into little pieces with the planes propeller. Through all the commotion a fire started and gasoline that was leaking from Marion's plane posed a serious threat. Indy once again had to overcome an obstacle on behalf of Marion. They got away just in the nick of time, as the whole base exploded. But, they got caught again, and Marion was kidnapped. Sallah managed to escape from the Nazi's and save Indy, but was too late to get Marion.

s dead. He offered to pay Marion for the staff, and she agreed to a hefty price that would be paid to her in the morning. Indy left and our first trickster appeared. He was a short evil looking German man, accompanied by many Nazi's. This man offered to buy the staff from Marion, and she tried to get as much money out of him as she could. Being a short tempered evil man, after learning that she was in possession of the staff, he grabbed Marion and threatened her to give him the staff. She was strong, and did not give into his persistent threats. This man proceeded to try and maim/torture her to get what he wanted. Through all the commotion a fire broke out. But, never fear our hero Indiana Jones was there to save the day, as he busted back into the pub. Much fighting went on, and as this happened the German man saw the Amulet for the staff lying in some rubbish engulfed in flames. He proceeded to acquire it, which lead to him burning his hand. After all the Nazi's were dead, the evil German man escaped and Marion and Indy acquired the Amulet, before the pub burnt down. This fiasco convinced Marion to let Indy have the Amulet, but under the condition that she could accompany him on his quest. She will help Indy much along the way but also cause him trouble.

He arrives at the site where the Nazi's are digging for the temple that will tell them where the Ark is with the Staff of Ra. While there he finds Marion, and is very pleased. However, he leaves her in the tent, because he didn't want her to be in danger. He and Sallah snuck
