Hard Determinism

In the book, "The Metamorphosis", Gregor can be interpreted as being either a hard determinist, soft determinist, or a libertarian. From the reader's standpoint, Gregor resembles that of a hard determinist, one whose decisions are made by the relevant natural conditions under which they occur, because his selfish parents treat him as a continuously working robot that repeats the same tasks over and over again. His parents deprive him from any form of free will and keep him on an invisible leash to restrict him from freedom. His job of a traveling salesman requires him to travel day in and day out repeating the same sales speech over and over, an ultimately forbidding him from exercising any free will. .
In soft determinism, our actions are casually determined by the relevant natural conditions under which they occur. Gregor doesn't display a character who's a soft determinist because he has no control over his choices or desires. Based on Gregor's daily actions and parental control, Gregor doesn't have any control over his free will. In the story "Metamorphosis", Gregor is unable to quit his lifeless and repetitive job because his fathers owes money to Gregor's employer, therefore Gregor's inability to even quit his own job shows he doesn't fit will a soft determinists. .
With Libertarianism, some of our actions are caused by the individual without anything else conflicting with a persons actions. Because of his father's great debt, Gregor doesn't have the free will to choose his profession, but rather must face each day in the same manner with the same routine, therefore can't be a libertarian. Also because of Gregor's uncontrollable metamorphosis into a bug, he no longer has the choice of the career he wishes to pursue and also can no longer provide money for his family. However, Gregor always wished for a way out of his boring and tedious job, but never knew the way out would come in a form of a giant bug.
