Who Has Your Back?

It was a case of two different countries in the Vietnam War. The first part of this two sided battle was North Vietnam. In North Vietnam they had a disciplined and structured army, but they did not have that much food. They had a great leader which they all loved and followed to the end. And on the other side was South Vietnam with a very undisciplined, non-structured army that needed a lot of help. They also did not have that much food, and with no real leader it made only things harder. And since the United States was on the South Vietnam side they felt it necessary that the United States should give aid to them and help with this problem. In my opinion I feel that it was not a smart choice for the United States to give them nation building aid. .
One of the main reasons that it was not a good idea to help South Vietnam in nation building was that it was so expensive for this to go on. Contrary to popular belief we do have to pay for planes flying over to Vietnam. Not only do we have to pay for the plane flying over there, but we have to pay for the food and for the medical supplies. And last time I checked feeding millions of people isn't that cheap. Bringing them food and medical supplies wasn't the only things we had to help them with. We also had to help them with their army. The United States brought over more troops to prepare South .
Vietnamese people for war. I feel we should have helped plant foods and get them started that way instead of just handing it to them and then have them learn nothing. .
Another reason I feel that it was not a good idea for the United States to help with nation building is that the leader at the time, Ngo Dinh Diem was a very awful leader. Once in power, the Americans discovered that Diem was unwilling to be a 'puppet' ruler. He constantly rejected their advice and made decisions that upset the South Vietnamese people. Several attempts were made to overthrow Diem but although the Americans were unhappy with his performance as president, they felt they had no choice but to support him.
