Slovenia does not have a lot of big sport companies. There are three big companies Planika, Alpina and Elan. The first two companies producess sport shoes. The third and also the biggest one is Elan d.d.. That is why i will focuse on this company and also because Elan produces sailing boats, and i will try to analyze it. Elan d.d. is a very intresting company, because it is organised like a Joint Stock Company. »The principal lines of business of Elan Joint-stock company are financial, accounting, legal, personnel and information services, exchange transactions,

The years between1985-1993 there was a period of intense co-operation with the company Jakopin brothers a palette of sailing yachts ELAN 19 (1985); ELAN 43 (1987) are produced, ELAN 31 is modernized, later renamed to ELAN 33, than to ELAN 331 (1987); ELAN 34 (1990) and ELAN 38 (1993).

In year 2002 Elan moved its powerboats production to the new location in Obrovac (Croatia). At this moment of time it produce small sport and fisherman motorboats up to 6,5 meters. The new range is under development and the first model 35 feet motorboats. This new range is developing in collaboration with UK designer Mr. Tony Castro. In year 2002 weinvested 1,2 million euros in this part and plan for 2003 is 3 million Euros.

In the year 1949 the nautical division of company Elan for the production of boats was formed. In their boat workshop, it starts to manufacture boats, kayaks, canoes, four and eight-seated scullers that were made out of waterproof wooden slabs. Beetwen 1970-80 the company starts to produce motor boats Turist (models T 240, 375, 400, 410, 480, 495 and 401). T 401 and GT459F are still being produced today and are the most salable models of all boats. 600 boats were produced in their best years, in the 27 years of their existence the company has produced over 10,000 boats.
