Gender and Computers: Who uses computers, and how do they fe

Business main lab room B-1012 consists of 29, 733Mhz computers, a black and white laser jet printers, a color ink-jet printer and, 2 photocopiers.

4. Count the number of men and women engaged in word processing, email, surfing the web, programming, statistics, playing games.

5. Are there any other observations that you find relevant?

Some people also using chat programs such as MSN Messenger and ICQ. Many people reading assorted web pages such as news, sports, music, and movies while working on other things. Also, many print jobs being sent to printers for school related purposes

To obtain survey data, interview 6 people ( 3 men and 3 women) about their computer use, using the following questions.

1. Tell me the different uses you have for computers (e.g., email, games, word processing, statistics, etc.).

2. How much time do you spend a week using a computer?

To conduct a study of these differences, I chose the Memorial University Business building’s undergraduate computer lab. The lab consists of 29 computers, as well as photocopiers and various printing devices. At the time of my study 26 computers were in use, with those users being 15 males and 11 females, supplemented by two 2 male support staff.
