China is a nation with brilliant culture and a long history. During 3000 years of feudalism reign, Chinese people had consolidated a notion of feudal family monarchism, which dominated the society with arranged marriage as one aspect. Many customs related to marriage were formed basing on the practices of marriage in feudal times. Nowadays, most customs have been eliminated or modified in marriage practices, however, some of them were still regarded as of importance, especially among people in villages.

This research proposal intends to explain the reasons why certain customs still exist in marriage of Chinese people. The conclusion will be brought with three parts of discussion in succession: back ground information of marriage in China; how does marriage practices today take place; why do Chinese people practices marriage in this way.
