Bread and Roses
Bread and Roses tells the story of a Mexican woman named Maya who moves to Los Angles to live with her sister named Rosa. She convinces her sister to get her a job at Angel cleaning services in downtown Los Angles as a janitor. Maya meets a union organizer named Sam, she ends up for falling for him. They organize events to embarrass top executives of the Angels cleaning services. They organize a strike called Justice for Janitors. They go on strike for better wages and better working conditions. But in the end of the movie Maya is deported back to Mexico with other illegal immigrants who were on strike. Bread and Roses was based on a real life Justice for Janitors campaign in Los Angles in the 1990s.Union workers were making more money and had health benefits. Whereas non-union workers made less and had no health insurance, or other benefits. The movies does not tell a different story, it shows one the inequities of those who worked in the city’s offices and those who cleaned them. The people build up a strike but it is stopped, and many of the illegal immigrants are sent back to their country’s. The roles of racial politics are depicted in the movie, through Maya illegally moving into the United States. I

It also shows what one person willing to do to obtain better wages for non-union workers. I would have like for this movie to have a happier ending, I would like to know if the Janitors got the rise. In collusion I would recommend this movie, for anyone who interested in a love story, mixed with a battle for justice, and the struggle of minorities in America. llegal immigrants in the United States has been on the up rise, despite border patrol thousands are smuggled into the United States every year. Most of the employees that work at Angel’s Cleaning service are poor class working Mexicans. Gender politics is depicted in the movie, in one point in the movie Maya and Rosa get into a heated argument. Maya ridicules her sister for not joining the uni
