The Invention of a Walkie Talkie
If you have used a cellular telephone or the door control of the garage at some time, it has been thanks to Al Gross. Intelligent engineer, Gross invented the walkie-talkie when he was only an adolescent in 1938. In 1948, he established the Citizens' Band radio. In 1949, he invented the telephone pager. His other inventions include the basics of cordless and cellular telephony. Al Gross was born in Toronto in 1918 and died on December 22, 2002 at the age of 82. He discovered his passion for radio in his earlier years. At the age of 9, on a steam- boat trip, the ship’s radio operator let him listen to the wireless. Ever since that day he became obsessed with radio technology that he even turned his basement into a radio headquarters with equipment found in junkyards. The walkie-talkie was later the base of all types of wireless communications. After it was created, many other devices were invented such as the telephone pager, radio services and other electronic communication systems. Over the years most high selling communication companies made use with the walkie-talkie to upgrade their business. One example is Motorola. This company has designed a large variety of walkie-talkies with different names and different prices. Cellular phone companies such as Nextel Communications has also adopted the use of the walkie-talkie in a more advanced version which they call direct connect. Direct Connect allows you to push a single button and connect with another Nextel user. The Direct Connect feature still relies on cellular technology to connect to the recipient.
