Bruce lee
A Chronology of the Life of Bruce LeeBruce Lee fought. He fought throughout his entire life, from having innate physical weaknesses at birth to establishing an acting career. Bruce’s ambitions demanded that he be the best, that he become unbeatable. Lee achieved fame as the highest-paid Asian film actor in the world. He placed first at Hong Kong’s Cha-Cha championships and even made the dean’s list at the University of Washington, in Seattle. As a result of the sincere efforts Bruce Lee made throughout his life, he gained perception and wisdom. Because this is the true purpose in most people’s life, there is much interest in his story. Lee Hoi Cheun, Bruce’s father, a famous Cantonese opera performer, was surprised with the timing of Bruce’s birth. His birth happened unexpectedly on November 27, 1940 while his father was on a performance trip in San Francisco. Bruce acquired his name from one of the hospital nurses simply because it was Western and easy to remember. He was later given a Chinese name, “Jun Fan”. Lee’s father spent a lot of time traveling in America. Yet Lee’s father did not want him to receive an American high school education. When Lee was three months old his father sent him back to th
At the end of a long and tedious school day Bruce could be found leading a school gang that was formed around a core of anti-British thoughts. The Chinese hated the British almost as much as they hated the Japanese. There was a long history of subjugation under British colonial rule and such bad feelings were long-standing. Bruce’s gang would gather near King George V School to heap insults upon the British school boys until a fight broke out. One day, when Bruce broke his right arm in a gang-related fight he stormed home and demanded to be trained in martial arts in order to defend himself against the British school boys. Although he had been shown some t’ai chi by his father, the slow flowing movements did not appeal to Bruce. After consistent begging from Bruce, Grace Lee finally gave in and allowed Bruce to take wing chun, a more fierce fighting technique than t’ai chi. Now thirteen years old, Bruce Lee took to wing chun with great enthusiasm. Lee’s martial art master, known as The Yip Man, swayed him from his interest in street fighting, and thus Lee absorbed some of the finer points of the art. Everyday after school Lee could be found heading straight to Yip Man’s class, anticipating training by practicing his kicks and punches on nearby trees. This period of Lee’s life was extremely crucial in showing the origins of the fighting method and philosophical art that Bruce Lee was eventually to develop.
