Throughout ‘The Endless Steppe’, Esther and her family experience racism. Before Esther and her family were sent to Siberia, she lived a good and happy life; she loved school and loved the order of her life. One day that all changed and the Rudomin family were ordered to pack their bags in less then ten minutes and were forced onto a truck which took them to a cattle train. The cattle trains were small, hot and stinking from the animals before. The toilet was just one small hole and there was limited food and water. This train was going to be their home for a number of hours and days. The only reason why the Rudomin family were on this train was because they had a Jewish religion.
