Throughout the history of sport there has always been that one player on a team that is known as over aggressive. This sometimes is a mislabel, and the player may just be an assertive player. Football and hockey are two sports, which there is a lot of hitting, and there is the problem of telling who is an aggressive athlete or who is an assertive athlete. Throughout the course of this paper I hope to educate and inform the reader that there is a distinct difference between being aggressive and assertive.
What is aggression? Aggression is the intent to injure someone during an attack or physical activity. For an event or action to be aggressive, it has to be projected towards a living object. Hitting a desk with your fist during frustration is not considered an aggressive act because the desk is not alive and therefore cannot be harmed. In order for the action to be considered aggressive, it must be with the intent to harm the target, which excludes unintended injury that occurs to your opponent or living object. Aggression does not only have to be physical, it can be verbal and mental. If you are verbally abusing someone in sport and it effects them and injures them somehow,
