Johnathon

I'd like to tell you a little bit about teddy bears...things that maybe you don't already know.

I really don't mean to brag, but I must say that at the Coach House Collection we think that teddy bears make ideal companions. I say that for several good reasons. First of all, we are very versatile. We get purchased (we prefer to think of it as adoption) by our new owners (we prefer to think of them as our human companions) for all sorts of reasons. Maybe as a gift for a sick child or adult; maybe as a gift for a new baby or some other special occasion; maybe as part of a collection; or maybe just because someone thinks we're cute. Whatever the reason, you can be assured that we'll do the job well. We're especially good at that "just cute" bit. After all, whoever heard of an ugly teddy bear? Sorry, there I go bragging again.

Many humans get their first teddy bear companion when they are children. Many of you, I'm sure, have fond memories of your first teddy bear. Some of you probably still have that special friend. Maybe you've tucked it away in your treasures; maybe it's proudly displayed in your home; or maybe you've passed it along to your children or even grandchildren. Wherever it is, I'm sure it brings back fond memories,

Do you ever get upset with other people...especially someone you really care a lot about and really wish you could give them a piece of your mind?

Before I go on, I'd like to ask all of you a question or two. You don't have to raise your hand or anything like that. I'm not asking this to embarrass anyone, but if either of these situations apply to you, I just want you to listen for a minute.

This brings me to another of our many great attributes. If you do what I just suggested and get things off your chest with your teddy bear, you can be absolutely confident that no one else will ever know (unless you do it so loudly that the neighbors hear you). We'll never breathe a word about it. Your deepest secrets are safe with us. If you hear some wonderfully delicious gossip about someone and would love to share it, but you know that's not nice, tell your teddy. We won't repeat it. In fact, no one could beat it out of us. We're just raised that way. Unlike those three silly monkeys who claim to see no evil, hear no evil and speak no evil, we proudly claim to hear everything, see everything but say nothing. We think that's a lot more helpful and, believe me, it's a lot more fun.

No doubt you've heard the saying "I'm not getting older; I'm just getting better." I'll bet you didn't know that it was a teddy bear who originally said that. In fact it was my favorite great-uncle Barnie. He said it when the human who found him hanging out in an antique store was willing to pay nearly a hundred times his original price. Now I admit that Uncle Barnie is in pretty good shape for his age, but the fur on the top of his head is nearly all worn away. Perhaps the bald look struck a chord with his new human. He has the same problem.
