William Butler Yeats by many the greatest poet of the 20th century who life spanned from the late 1800's to the mid 1900's. He was born in 1865 and died in 1939. He was passionately committed to Ireland and created a national drama. Yeats mostly produced drama and criticism as well as poetry. During his lifetime when he wrote "The Second Coming" there were many problems in the world such as the Russian Revolution of 1917 and World War I in 1918. Shortly after of these war’s he wrote "The Second Coming". Most of the problems presented in Yeats poems were about life and the uncertainties of the future.
