Workplace Violence

The article I found talked about the most effective tool against workplace violence. They considered training as the most effective tool. They mentioned how training is effective in job skills, productivity and efficiency; and that they believe that training can protect employees from violence in the workplace.
IOMA, or institute of management and administration, conducted a survey of 300 people. From the survey they found that supervisor training of workplace violence has helped reduce the amount of incidents in the workplace. Just over 20 percent of companies that trained their supervisors, reduced the number of incidents of violence. Nearly 22 percent of companies that trained all their employees reduced their incidents of violence. They said that best place to start was to implement a violence prevention policy. Some of the experts on workplace violence see drugs as the culprit to violence in the workplace.
Ioma also talked about workplace violence involving employees and non-employees. Many companies see this as a growing problem among violence. They feel that companies should not sidestep this type of violence, but to include it in their prevention policy.
Some ways they gave to help prevent workplace violence is to install panic alarms or implement a timely emergency response team. The best way to prevent violence is in the employees, and this is done through training and other things such as reducing the ability to smoke in or around the workplace. Another is to deal personally with customers that may have been waiting for a long time. One other way is to limit the movement of people, such as, only allowing certain people in certain areas. The article also talked about what signals to look for, how to maintain behavior, and how to reduce the risk of getting into a violent situation.
When I read this article I looked back at my years in the military. During the years in the military we always had a response team and a prevention plan.
