My View of “Sex without Love” and “Save Yourself”

The poem “Sex without Love” by Sharon Olds and the song “Save Yourself” by Sense Field are very closely related in the fact that they are both about not giving up your virginity to just anyone off the street. Sex is meant to mean something and it is not just something to experiment with anybody just because it’s fun. The fact is, there are a lot of people who don’t really think anything of it. They don’t really care about having casual sex with someone that they don’t really love. They just want the pleasure with no attachment. In “Sex without Love” the line “How do they do it, the ones who make love without love” (Olds line 1) relates very well with the line “Just give it away, someone who, couldn’t even remember your name” (Sense Field line 23) in “Save Yourself.” These two lines both relate to each other because they both explain to the reader that people take their virginity and just give it away to someone who doesn’t really care about them. They really just care about the moment. They are wondering what you have to offer them right now. These types of people described in this song and poem are the kind of people that just have casual sex just for kicks. They don’t rea

In “Save Yourself” the line “May I remind you when you find you, you’re all alone is when you’ve got to be strong” (Sense Field lines 3 and 4) is telling me that life doesn’t have to be this way. The person that the speaker is talking about obviously made a mistake and gave away their virginity to someone who doesn’t really care about them, let alone love them. They are now finding themselves all alone with no one living in deep regret and sorrow. In “Sex without Love” it seems as if both of the people the speaker is describing are the same. They both don’t care about each other so it is harder for someone to get hurt. This is a major way in which the poem and the song are different. “Save Yourself” describes someone who got used for someone else’s pleasure. “Sex without Love” describes two people who are using each other.

lly care how you feel later when they can’t even remember you name.

Both of these works are very touching and about something that is so important. It made me realize just how bad it would feel to be used by someone just for a moment of pleasure. Although, these works also teach a very valuable life lesson that is sometimes learned the hard way. Don’t let people persuade you to do something that you don’t feel is right a
