Mozart in Amadeus

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was a man born into an amazing musical talent. When most boys were still running away from the girls that had cooties, Mozart was composing symphonies and operas. The movie AMADEUS illustrates Mozart’s life as seen by another composer, Salieri. Throughout the movie Salieri highlights many important events in Mozart’s life. By just looking at these few snip-its of Mozart’s life, we can figure out a lot about him and especially about some of his relationships with people. Mozart and his wife had a loving yet conflicting relationship. His father was very protective, guiding and advising of his son. Above all though, Salieri’s extreme hatred bread through jealousy can be seen. All three of these relationships eventually lead to his stressful, maddening death.

The first time we meet Mozart’s wife, it is long before the two are married. They are chasing each other and rolling around in a back room during a very sophisticated event that Mozart was scheduled to perform at. They were young, with no regrets and no worries. As the movie proceeds we see this scenario change greatly. The duo gets married and Mozart comes to live near and work for the same people as Salieri. Things begin to shift

Although all of these relationships were different, they each contributed differently to the end of Mozart. Ranging from minor to extreme, the experiences that Mozart had with the people close to him lead to near insanity and eventual death. It seemed as though the movie portrayed an incredibly gloomy side of Mozart’s life and it leaves the viewer wondering about some of the other relationships in the man’s life. What about his mother? His children? His friends? From this movie it seems as though there was no reason for Mozart to get up in the morning and put a smile on his face. He would work so hard, only to have people criticize him and knock him down. He would spend weeks writing a piece to only have it run like ten times. With all of these forces opposing him, it is a wonder that he was alive and functional for as long as he was.

A slightly more cheerful relationship was the one that Mozart had with his father. At a very young age, Mozart was learning everything that he possibly could from his father (musically speaking). The two were very close as was illustrated at the beginning of the film. Mozart’s father was pretty much always his protector and really remained true to him until his death. His father did not want him to leave his side to go to another job and another place. When Mozart was dismissed from his original position, his father went back and pleaded to get him another chance, and he eventually did. When he told Mozart of the opportunity that had been reopened, his son did not listen or even appreciate what his father had done. Eventually Mozart’s father came to live with his son and his daughter-in-law, b
