Death Penalty
Have you ever lost a family member or friend that was innocent in the crime they had been killed in? The death penalty has been used for over 500 years. Some of the ways to be punished would be gas chamber, burned at the stake, hanging, firing squad, electric chair, and many other ways. Although the death penalty brings fear to commit the crime, an eye for an eye, and supposedly cheaper ways to die, but it is also immoral, less economical, and can result in fatal accidents. The death penalty is immoral because of many reasons. One of them is why should people be able to play God and choose who lives and who dies. No one has the right to choose if someone lives or dies. In the Bible, in the Book of Matthew: 5:38-40, Jesus proclaims, “But I tell you, do not resist an evil person. If someone strikes you on the right cheek, turn to him the other as well. If someone wants to sue you and take your tunic, give him your cloak as well.” This verse really is saying that people should turn the other way and n
Do you still believe that an eye for an eye should be used in the justice system? No one has the power to play God because when people receive that power it is abused and innocent people are killed. Also, the economics of the death penalty are way too high and cannot be even compared to the economics of life incarceration. The death penalty should be eliminated from the justice system because it is immoral, less economical, and can result in fatal accidents. For those reasons, the death penalty is above all wrongly used. The final reason for abolishing the death penalty is because innocent people have been convicted and killed without even committing a crime. Over the past 96 years 23 innocent people have been killed in the death penalty. All were proven innocent after the execution and 23 families had to live with their family member being dead because of the justice system’s failure to convict the right criminal.
